Face ID or access cards: which should you choose

Both methods work. The difference lies in daily convenience and control, and the choice depends on your workplace.

Access cards

Cards are cheap and familiar. But they can be lost, forgotten or handed to someone else, so a record does not always prove that this employee came in.

Face recognition terminals

Employees carry nothing and have to be there in person. A terminal costs more than a card, but there is less work issuing and replacing lost cards.

What suits which workplace

  • Offices, shops, clinics and schools: face recognition is convenient
  • Very dusty sites or work with covered faces: test it first
  • A card system that works well: it can be replaced in stages

Data protection

A face photo is personal data. Inform employees in advance, limit access rights and check current legal requirements with your lawyer.
